1. [돌발-재활용] Tell me about a memorable experience you had while recycling. What happened? What made it so memorable? Tell me about it in as much detail as possible.

One experience that sticks out for me is when I ran into my childhood friend while recycling.

It happened last year. I was recycling as usual. Out of the blue, I felt someone tapping on my shoulder. I turned around without a clue and, to my surprise, saw my friend in elementary school days that went to the same elementary school as me. I was surprised because she moved to Canada several years ago, and I couldn’t hear from her since then. I had never expected her to be in my neighborhood recycling in the morning. It turned out she had moved back to Korea merely a few days ago.

Since then, it has become our routine to meet at the recycling area on every Tuesday morning and talk over coffee after done recycling. It became a memorable experience to me because it not only allowed me to meet my old friend again, but also motivated me to recycle.

2. [돌발-재활용] Tell me about recycling in your country. What kind of items do people usually recycle? Please describe the recycling system in your country in detail.

In my opinion, our country’s recycling system is highly activated. Citizens of all ages are aware of the importance of recycling and go out of their way to recycle. I think what made this possible is the education. People are taught to recycle from a young age.

In my country, recyclable items are picked up on specific days depending on where you live. People must recycle most items made of paper, tin, and plastic. Of those, a large proportion of plastic items are water bottles. Our government newly added a separated container for plastic water bottles. I think this is a great idea with effectiveness because it shortens the recycling process.

One thing I don’t like about my country’s recycling system is that detailed rules of recycling change pretty often. It is important for government to announce them properly and for us to keep track of the rules.
